by: , This pre-Christmas accident in Eastmoreland took out a utility pole, but did not darken the neighborhood.

The Eastmoreland traffic crash that smashed a utility pole and left it hanging by its wires at 11:50 pm on the evening of Sunday, December 23rd, could have been worse - after all, area electricity did stay on throughout the event.

Portland Police officers investigating the incident reported that the eastbound motorist swerved, lost control of his panel van, jumped the curb, and rolled it over - breaking the pole at S.E. 36th Avenue at Crystal Springs Boulevard.

'The driver was 50-year-old Michael John Gallagher,' reported Portland Police Bureau spokesperson Officer Catherine Kent. After his interview by officers at the scene, she said, 'Gallagher was arrested, and charged with DUII, in connection with the motor vehicle accident.'
