Dayle Clarke Franks

Troutdale resident Dayle Clarke Franks, 94, died Saturday, March 1, at her home.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd.

Dayle was born March 13, 1913, in Stevensville, Mont., to Price and Emma (Warner) Higgins. She graduated from Stevensville High School.

On July 20, 1936, she married Arnold Nolan Franks in Stevensville. She lived in Helena, Mont., from 1943 to 1944, and then moved to Polson, Mont. She moved to Forest Grove in 1956 and to Troutdale in 2003.

Dayle worked for JC Penney, retiring in 1978. She was a member of the Forest Grove Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Pacific Progress, the bridge club of Forest Grove and the Forest Grove Senior Center. Her interests included cooking, baking pies, her vegetable gardens, canning dill pickles, traveling, and her favorites, Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985; son, Clarke Franks; and sisters, Ellen Little-Anthony and Alda Bailey.

Survivors include her sons, Nolan Price Franks of Forest Grove and Arnold Dale Franks of Tualatin; daughter, Larkin G. Franks of Troutdale; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Martha A. Blommaerts

Sept. 24, 1933-March 7, 2008

Former Gresham resident Martha A. Blommaerts, 74, died Friday, March 7, in Portland from complications of multimyloma.

A public memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at Atkinson Memorial Church, 710 Sixth St., Oregon City.

Martha was born Sept. 24, 1933, in Wynegem, Belgium, to Bernard and Elizabeth Vinck. She graduated from high school and from a trade school in Antwerp, Belgium. She moved to Canada in 1957 and then moved to the United States in 1965, living in the Portland and Gresham areas.

She lived with companion, Dan Rothery, for 23 years.

Martha worked as a technician at Crown-Zellerbach and in accounting for Automatic Data Processing Inc. She retired in 2003.

She volunteered at the Elks Club and for Hough Elementary School, and she was a leader with the 4-H Club. She traveled to numerous countries and places, including Spain, France, Africa, Germany and the Netherlands and went on cruises to Alaska, Panama and the Mexican Riviera.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Jayson Eisele, in 2005.

Survivors include her companion of Portland; daughters, Yolande Nolten of Gresham, Linda Eisele of Oregon City; and Ingrid Thompson of Gresham; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Martin William Butalla

Sept. 5, 1946-March 9, 2008

Gresham resident Martin William Butalla, 61, died Sunday, March 9.

Private services were held by the family.

Martin was born Sept. 5, 1946, in Harrisburg, Penn., to Martin William and Bertha (Potl) Butalla. He graduated from Steelton High School in Steelton, Penn. He received his master's degree in civil engineering from Georgia Tech and a master's degree in theology from Dallas Theological Seminary.

On June 9, 1979, he married Pamela Brown in Atlanta. He lived in Atlanta, Yardley, Penn., and Plano, Texas. He moved to Sandy in 1995 and to Gresham in 2001.

Martin worked as a civil engineer for XP Software for seven years.

He was active with the New Covenant Hope of Gresham. He loved photography, model railroading, spending time on the computer and with his family. Martin was also an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan.

Survivors include his wife; son, Steve Latham of Atlanta; daughter, Beth Heaton of Portland; sister, Martina Therese of Philadelphia; and one grandson.

Fern K. Seaburn-Westmoreland

Jan. 30, 1945-March 15, 2008

Gresham resident Fern K. Seaburn-Westmoreland, 63, died Saturday, March 15.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Open Arms Seventh-day Adventist Church, 15150 N.E. Glisan St., Portland.

Fern was born Jan. 30, 1945, in Blythe, Calif., to James and True (Stone) Collins.

She was previously married. In 2002, she married Kenneth Westmoreland.

Fern worked as a housekeeper at Rest Harbor Nursing Home in Gresham, retiring in 2002. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She enjoyed gardening, her grandchildren, and she was a fan of the Seattle Mariners baseball team. She also looked forward to having morning coffee with friends at her house.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, in 2006.

Survivors include her sons, Russell Seaburn of Gresham and Gerald Seaburn of Amboy, Wash.; daughters, Dawn Seaburn of Fairview and Dorinda Seaburn of Corbett; brothers, Jim Collins and Cliff Collins of Corbett; sister, Bonnie Bohannon of Corbett; and seven grandchildren.

Ruth McCullough Sommerville

Aug. 8, 1915-Feb. 21, 2008

Corbett resident Ruth McCullough Sommerville, 92, died Thursday, Feb. 21, in Vancouver, Wash.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at Sts. Peter and Paul Episcopal Church, 8147 S.E. Pine St., Portland.
