by: Chase Allgood, Forest Grove resident Marlene Fissel plans to have her new art/music teaching studio open for business next week.

Western Washington County kids who aren't headed out of town for Spring Break now have a fun option that's a bit closer to home.

ABC Art and Music in Forest Grove got its business license Monday, just in time to plan a spring Art Camp next week.

Marlene Fissel will run the classes out of her home at 2344 Main St.

Fissel sees her role as nurturing the budding artist -whether they are four or 94.

'I like starting people,' she said. 'If they want to take more advanced course, I'll send them down to Valley Art.'

On Monday Fissel was still mapping out a possible schedule for Spring Break, but she was thinking of a morning art class and afternoon batik lessons, with some music breaks thrown in.

She hopes to get some ideas at an open house she'll host from 2 to 4 p.m. this Friday, March 21.

Later this spring, Fissel plans to give small group instruction (maximum eight students) for preschoolers through seniors. Classes will run about $10, though discounts will be offered to families with more than one member attending. Fissel can be reached at 503-747-2344.
