The Winter Hawks, who had the Western Hockey League's worst record at 11-58-2-1, will pick second in the bantam draft May 1 in Calgary, Alberta.

Red Deer won the league's lottery and will pick first. The Winter Hawks also have two second-round picks.

The lottery involved the non-WHL playoffs teams - Edmonton, Portland, Red Deer, Prince Albert, Prince George and Saskatoon.

Last year, the Hawks had the No. 1 pick, but they dealt it to Moose Jaw and selected fifth (Brad Ross) and 28th (Joe Morrow) and also got Michael Burns, who since has been dropped from the team's 50-player protected list.
