Next: The LumberJax play at the San Jose Stealth, at 3 p.m. Sunday, in the National Lacrosse League playoffs. Portland (6-10) won both regular-season games at San Jose, but the Stealth (9-7) won the NLL's West Division.

The winner plays the Colorado-Calgary survivor in next weekend's second round.

• 'They're very sound,' Portland forward Dan Dawson says of the Stealth. 'A very physical and athletic defensive backdoor, and they've got a great goaltender (Anthony Cosmo).'

• Dawson played in the NLL final last year with Arizona, losing to Rochester.

'We're very confident in our dressing room that we can win this thing (the championship),' he says, drawing a parallel between his old and new team. 'We have to execute; we can't just show up and the game will be handed to us. We're not that good.'

• Dawson had seven goals and 11 assists in three games against San Jose, and he ranks sixth in NLL scoring with 81 points (38 goals, 43 assists). 'Good players are measured by what they do in playoff situations,' he says. 'We need to be better. Nobody's satisfied with the effort we put forth this year. We have a lot of untapped effort.'
