After losing twice this week at Gonzaga, Oregon State's baseball team (20-16, 8-7 Pac-10) visits Washington State (22-19, 3-9) at 5:30 p.m Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday and noon Monday. The Cougars are batting .307, led by Travis Coulter (.344) and Jim Murphy (.309, 10 HRs, 45 RBIs).
The 23rd-ranked Beavers - alone in third in the Pac-10 behind Stanford and Arizona State (both 10-5) - will start Mike Stutes, Tanner Robles and Jorge Reyes.
• The Big Sky women's golf champions from Portland State will play in the NCAA regional Thursday through May 10 at Lincoln Hills Golf Club in Sacramento, Calif. Oregon and No. 1-ranked USC also are in the 21-team field. Big Sky winner Hannah Bews, a sophomore from Hampshire, England, leads the PSU team that includes junior Kayla Morinaga, freshmen Alexia Brown and Aubrey Vaughn and sophomore Danielle Ranallo.
Bews is wrapping up her career as a Viking. She will transfer to Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach, Fla., 'purely because of the weather' and to join friends from England who play for the Wildcats.
