Portland police are searching for a man in his 40s who climbed through an apartment window early Tuesday morning and attacked a 14-year-old girl while she slept.

Police were called at about 4:21 a.m. to an apartment in the 10500 block of Southeast Cherry Blossom Drive, where they talked with the girl, who wasn't injured in the attack. The girl told police that even though the man was armed with a knife, she was able to fight him off and escape while he fled the apartment.

A search of the neighborhood by a police dog and other officers failed to find the man. Police said he was a possibly white or Hispanic man wearing dark clothing and a makeshift mask.
