Baseball, softball: Both Hawk squads were to host first-round games Wednesday

TUALATIN - The Horizon Christian High School baseball and softball teams extended their seasons into the Class 3A state playoffs.

Now there, the Hawks are looking to go even farther.

Both Horizon Christian teams were slated to open state postseason play on Wednesday.

The West Valley League champion Horizon Christian baseball team was slated to host Santiam Christian in a state-playoff first-round game on Wednesday. Results of that game weren't available when the Times went to press.

If Horizon Christian won on Wednesday, it will host either Burns or former West Valley League foe Valley Catholic in a state playoff quarterfinal game on Friday.

Horizon Christian took an overall record of 23-3 into Wednesday's playoff contest.

The Horizon Christian softball team was slated to host Rainier in a playoff opener on Wednesday.

If the Hawks won that game, they'll face either Rogue River or West Valley League rival Willamina in the quarterfinals on Friday. Horizon Christian would be the home team in a quarterfinal contest with Rogue River. The Hawks would have to travel to Willamina if they were to face the Bulldogs in the quarterfinals.

The Horizon Christian softball team took an overall record of 17-9 into Wednesday's quarterfinal contest.

The semifinal round of the Class 3A state baseball and softball playoffs is scheduled for Tuesday.
