Bring Picnic to Palisades gala
Organizers of the Palisades Celebration planned for June 8 have changed from their original plan of serving barbecue for those attending and are encouraging attendees to bring a picnic to the event. Pizza will be available for purchase from Bellagio's Pizza on site.
The event will be held at the school, located at 1500 Greentree Road, from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
Sunday event to aid Japanese
A benefit for Japanese schools in Ishinomaki, Japan will be held this Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Nickerson home, 11175 S.W. Riverwood Road in Dunthorpe. Organized by Chris Nickerson and Evi Fuson, the fundraiser will aid the rebuilding of Ishinomaki City's 56 schools destroyed by the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
The women are tennis teammates of Sanae Ito, whose hometown is Ishinomaki. She will show pictures from her recent trip to the city.
Attendees can also learn to fold origami, make and eat sushi and bid on auction items. All proceeds will go directly to the Ishinomaki Schools to purchase supplies for the children.
Admission is $10 at the door; other donations are appreciated.
