Inner Southeast neighbors celebrated 'Earth Day 2011' in many ways - but a dozen or so folks decided to volunteer with Friends of Trees for tree planting in the Sellwood area on April 23rd.

'This is our last planting of the season,' commented Friends of Trees crew leader Lisa Fujino.

She started volunteering with Friends of Trees, Fujino told THE BEE, as a way to become more directly involved in her community. 'And, it's a good way to reduce all kinds of pollution, whether it's water runoff, or noise pollution, or air pollution. I just want to do my part, and help unite the community at the same time.'

Although the 'planting season' has come to an end in Inner Southeast for 2011, Fujino noted, there are many volunteer opportunities at Friends of Trees here next year, and they're looking for a local crew leader also.
