A Texas man is in critical condition after falling off a hiking trail in the Columbia River Gorge on Tuesday, June 7.

Benton Springer, 64, of San Marcos, Texas, fell about 30 feet into a ravine while hiking at Bridal Veil Falls State Park at 1:30 p.m. and was transported by LifeFlight helicopter to Oregon Health and Science University, said Lt. Mary Lindstrand, Multnomah County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.

He was hiking with his wife, who was ahead of him when she heard a sound, turned around and discovered that her husband had fallen, Lindstrand said.
