No one has ever doubted that Sandy knows how to throw a party, and one of the long-standing citywide parties is the Music, Fair and Feast presented by the Les Schwab Tire Center.
This three-day party, July 7-9 in Centennial Plaza, has activities for the young and the more mature, ranging from a junior talent show to popular bands and a beer garden with brews as well as wine and margaritas.
Organized mainly by the Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce, the event brings bands from the Portland and Vancouver, Wash. areas.
Music Fair and Feast has been bringing music, food and fun together for local residents for more than 30 years.
One of this event's activities requires some preparation, according to Hollis Maclean-Wenzel, executive director of the chamber.
Children should now be preparing for the July 8 junior talent show, she said, and getting their entries into the chamber office, where applications are now available.
Entries are separated into age groups of 6-10, 11-14 and 15-18. Judging of the talent will be based on originality, technical ability costume and stage presence.
The entry fee is $10, and the grand prize is a $500 savings bond.
Besides Friday afternoon's talent show, there is another family activity on Thursday, July 7 after the Sandy Mountain Festival parade.
Thursday's Family Night is free to attend from 5 to 11:30 p.m., and includes food, cold beer and live music from the Anything Goes band as well as giveaways, games and prizes. Maclean-Wenzel says all ages are welcome.
After the Friday, July 8, junior talent show, anyone 21 and older can enjoy beer and wine or margaritas along with food concessions and main-stage entertainment from 6 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., with live music from the Dirt Farm Cowboys and Crush bands.
All ages are welcome to participate Saturday, July 9, during the open microphone session, 3-5 p.m.
By 6 p.m., the plaza will become an adults-only affair, with beer, wind and margaritas available and live music from two bands.
For more than six hours, the main stage will feature the musical variety of the Lock, Stock and Barrel and Crush bands.
Available at the Sandy Les Schwab Tire Center are $2 admission discount coupons for Friday and Saturday evening's music and dancing activities.
