Moves: Six pitchers have their tickets punched for Portland - three this week, three last week. First, it was Sean Thompson, Jack Cassel and Erick Burke who got cut from the parent San Diego Padres. Second, on Monday, Jared Wells, Frank Brooks and Adrian Burnside got sent down to minor-league camp, with each expected to pitch for the Beavers. Padre manager Bud Black liked the way Wells threw, but the young pitcher needs time in Triple-A, where he struggled last season.
So far, two-year Bevo pitcher Tim Stauffer has held on and pitched well in spring training. But reports say the Padres have their pitching staff projected, and it doesn't include him.
Tickets: Portland Beavers tickets go on sale 10 a.m. March 24 at PGE Park and Ticketmaster locations.
Bevos impress: Paul McAnulty and Terrmel Sledge have impressed the Padres, each trying to secure the left field spot with San Diego. Of McAnulty, Black tells reporters: 'We all know that he can swing the bat. He's playing with a lot of energy.' He has made several good plays in left. Of Sledge, Black tells The San Diego Union-Tribune: 'He's busting it. He's playing hard … Sledgey has a great look in his eyes.'
Meanwhile, Jack Cust could end up back in Portland. But he has an option to decline an assignment here.
