MHC BASEBALL - Eagles are only winless team left in the Mount Hood
by: David Ball, Barlow's Nick Hymel makes contact for a run-scoring infield sacrifice during the Bruins' 6-1 win against Centennial on Friday, April 13.

Barlow rushed to a quick lead and turned away numerous Centennial chances to even the score en route to a 6-1 Mount Hood Conference baseball win Friday afternoon.

The Bruins moved in front 3-0 in the second inning when Kasey Geertz sent a two-out, two-run single into right field.

'I just knew that I had to put the ball in play,' Geertz said. 'I was seeing a lot of curveballs, and I was able to connect and the ball got through.'

The Bruins extended to a 5-0 margin in the third inning, highlighted by an RBI-double by Jacob Kopra.

Centennial had plenty of chances to answer early in the game, advancing runners to third base in each of the first four innings. But the Eagles managed only one run out of that barrage. The Eagles final chance came with the bases loaded in the fourth inning, but Barlow pitcher Nick Flood ended the threat with a strikeout.

• In other MHC action, Chris Houle hit an RBI-single into center field to lift Sandy to a 3-2 win against Gresham in eight innings.
