Lake Oswego's Max Carter bested a field of 30 players to win the intermediate boys division (for 12 and 13-year-olds) at the state junior match play golf championships last weekend in a competition that was held at Creekside Golf Club in Salem.

The 13-year-old Carter, who started competing in statewide events last year, claimed top honors in his division by winning four match-play events. In the final, he defeated Zachary Foushee of Tigard 2 and 1.

Carter also took third place in the OGA Peter Jacobsen Golf Tournament the week before.

Several other local golfers also had good showings in the state match play championships. Lake Oswego's Lindsay Harmon won the first flight title in the intermediate girls division (12 to 14-year-olds) when she beat Caitlyn Doyle of Corvallis on the 19th hole.

In the intermediate boys division, Lake Oswego's Clay Reis lost the final match in the third flight when he dropped a 3 and 2 decision to Zachary Holloway of Brownsville.

In the boys junior division (16 and 17-year-olds), Lake Oswego's Troy Douglass lost to Portland's Michael Calhoun on the 19th hole in the final match of the third flight.
