by: David F. Ashton Water features and other amenities still make the Sellwood Pool a great destination on a hot day.

Even though the weather was cool, under persistent cloudy skies, when the Sellwood Pool opened for the season on June 20, that didn't stop families from having a splashing good time in a pool heated to 84 degrees.

The venerable pool celebrated its 100th year of operation last year, and still provides an oasis for both serious swimmers and casual users.

'The best thing about having the pool's reopening,' commented returning Pool Manager Kim Cunningham, 'Is seeing all of our families who come back every summer. It's wonderful; and really the best part of my job. I look forward to opening day every year.'

Most of the people who use the pool are from Sellwood and nearby neighborhoods, Cunningham said. 'Because I grew up just a few blocks away from here, for me, swimming in this pool was the best part of summertime!'
