Final Four Tigers spice OSU's early-season schedule

Louisiana State, which made it to the NCAA Final Four last season before losing to UCLA, will play at Oregon State in a Dec. 17 men's basketball game.

The match-up with the Tigers is one of 14 non-conference games for the Beavers, who released their schedule on Monday.

The Beavers will open the season with an exhibition game Nov. 5 at home against Saint Martin's, then play host to Portland on Nov. 10.

"The schedule is great," OSU coach Jay John says. "We're getting our kids the right amount of amount of challenges in the preseason so that we're ready to start Pac-10 play. ... You want to give your team as much as they can handle."

UCLA will come to Corvallis' Gill Coliseum on Jan. 4.

Oregon State's Pacific-10 Conference opener is Dec. 30 at home against Oregon. The Beavers will travel to Eugene to play the Ducks on March 3 in their Pac-10 finale. The Pac-10 tournament is March 7-10 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

In Pac-10 play, the Beavers will play four consecutive road games for the first time since 1999-2000. The stretch has OSU at Washington State, Washington, USC and UCLA.

OSU also has a non-conference home game Nov. 15 against Nevada, the defending Western Athletic Conference champion.

Oregon State is scheduled to make return trips to LSU and Nevada in 2007-08.
