The West Linn Baseball Association's 12B all-star team, led by head coach Mike Hughes and assisted by Bill Hoveke and Joe Mollusky, won the Northern Oregon Cal Ripken 12B state tournament in Naselle, Wash., last weekend.

To get to the championship game, West Linn's all-star team defeated teams from Sandy, Dallas, Lower Columbia, Newberg and West Linn. Overall highlights for the tournament games were provided by Adam Winterling who pitched 10-plus innings without giving up a run. Robert Mollusky and Clayton Gelfand both pitched seven innings while Joey Apthorp added three innings on the mound.

The West Linn team outscored its opponents 67-10, hit .414 for the tournament (while the opponents hit .155) and only committed five errors in six games. Joey Apthorp (with a .556 average), Kyle Hughes (.444), Connor Jetton (.353) and Jordan Pearson (.333) also contributed to a strong offensive showing.

Michael Skoczylas hit .636 for the tournament. Jacob Betts and TJ Hilton had eight RBIs, Mitch Hoveke had seven RBIs and a home run; Andrew Yokubaitis and Adam Winterling had six RBIs. Jacob Betts had eight runs scored and Michael Skoczylas had seven runs scored. In the title contest, West Linn beat Lower Columbia 5-0.

The Lions will continue their season this weekend at the Northern Oregon Cal Ripken 12A state tournament in Dallas, Ore.
