by: PHOTO COURTESY: CLACKAMAS FIRE DISTRICT NO. 1 - Clackamas Fire District No. 1 officials say that a sprinkler system limited the damage caused by an 11-year-old boy at Linwood Elementary in Milwaukie.Milwaukie police detectives have identified the student who set fire to a paper-towel dispenser at Linwood Elementary School on Monday afternoon as an 11-year-old boy.

He was participating in an after-school program at the time of the incident, and he allegedly admitted to detectives over the course of several interviews that he initially set a piece of toilet paper on fire, before lighting the dispenser with a lighter. The fire was quickly extinguished by a sprinkler system, and $5,000-$10,000 in estimated damage was limited to the bathroom.

The results of the criminal investigation are being forwarded to the Clackamas County Juvenile Department for consideration.

Shortly before 4 p.m. on Feb. 25, Clackamas Fire units were dispatched to the school building at 11909 S.E. Linwood Ave. to a report of a fire in the building and quickly turned off the sprinkler system.

Five classrooms with students were in the school participating in after-school programs at the time of the fire. Due to early notification by the schools fire alarm, noted Clackamas Fire spokesman Brandon Paxton, all students and teachers escaped without injury.

If you have any more information regarding this incident, officials request you call the Milwaukie Police Department at 503-786-7500.
