Clackamas Community College Board member Greg Chaimov handily defeated challenger Michael Wilson in this week’s election by about a 10-point margin, according to preliminary returns.

CCC board members appointed Chaimov, an attorney and former Milwaukie city councilor, in October to replace Metro Councilor Carlotta Collette, who after re-election to Metro Council said she no longer had sufficient time to devote to the CCC position. Chaimov also is secretary of the Ledding Library of Milwaukie Foundation and an adjunct professor at Lewis & Clark Law School.

Since his appointment, he’s continued talking with constituents and visiting neighborhood associations. He says that he’d like to help CCC thrive in filling a need for a lower-cost educational option that he’s seen in local schools where his wife has worked as a teacher.

After choosing not to run for re-election to Milwaukie City Council, he said his interest in serving on the CCC board grew out of his experiences with the North Clackamas County Chamber of Commerce, where he was the 2011-12 board chairman.
