Detectives will not comment about whether or not new child sex-crime charges against Jason Jay Jaynes are connected to the investigation of his alleged murder-for-hire plot of Debbie Higbee-Benton.

by: CCSO - JaynesThe murder occurred in Gladstone on May 28, 2011, and also implicated Higbee-Benton’s partner, former Gladstone Police Sgt. Lynn Benton, who is being sued by an abuse victim claiming that Benton tried to cover up for Jaynes, and Jaynes’ mother Susan Campbell.

On Nov. 8, 2012, Jaynes, 33, was arrested as a co-defendant in murder. On Friday, Sept. 20, a Clackamas County grand jury indicted him for multiple sex crimes against female children that allegedly occurred in the Gladstone area between 1998 and 2001. An arraignment was scheduled Thursday at the Clackamas County Circuit Court in Oregon City.

The crimes he was charged with included two counts of using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, rape in the second degree, sodomy in the second degree, two counts of sexual abuse in the first degree, four counts of rape in the third degree and eight counts of sodomy in the third degree.

Detectives from the Oregon City Police Department and the Oregon State Police said they have reason to believe that there may be additional victims. Having attended schools in Gladstone, Jaynes lived at 220 Ipswich St. throughout his childhood and off-and-on during his adult years.

Jaynes is currently in the Clackamas County Jail on a $1.25 million bail.

Detectives are requesting that anyone with information regarding Jaynes’ involvement in child sex crimes, other victims or about the murder investigation, to call the TIP line set up at the Oregon State Police Northern Command Center, 1-888-780-5678.
