OC resident, managing editor for the Portland Tribune selected for Economic Development Commission, Transportation Advisory Committee

Vance TongOregon City resident Vance Tong, managing editor for the Portland Tribune (a sister paper in Pamplin Media Group), was recently selected for three-year terms to the Clackamas County Economic Development Commission and the Oregon City Transportation Advisory Committee.

Tong hopes his experience — both personal and professional — will be of value to the city and county as part of these key advisory committees.

"I'm looking forward to serving on both committees and enjoy being involved in the community I live in," he said.

In 2013, Tong moved to Oregon City from the Prineville area, where he was publisher of the Central Oregonian.

"Having lived in a number of smaller municipalities, I understand the need for volunteers on committees such as these," he said.

Tong had to send in formal applications for each position. He interviewed with two different groups before being recommended for appointment to the committees by the Oregon City Commission and the Board of County Commissioners.

Tong was selected to be part of a group interview where several candidates were simultaneously interviewed by three Economic Development Commission members. To be the business organization's designee to the Transportation Advisory Committee, he was interviewed by Michael Brand, executive director of the Oregon City Chamber of Commerce, along with the chamber's government affairs committee.

The Economic Development Commission has a mission to "create prosperity by fostering balanced economic development in Clackamas County through a close partnership with government and the private sector." Its meetings are from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on fourth Wednesdays in Room 115 of the county's Development Services Building, 150 Beavercreek Road, Oregon City.

Meeting 6 p.m. on third Tuesdays at City Hall, the Transportation Advisory Committee is tasked with guiding Oregon City officials on the preparation of transportation plans and programs, including the Neighborhood Traffic Management Plan.
