by: JONATHAN HOUSE - Danielle KirbyOregon City senior defender Danielle Kirby last week signed a letter of intent to play lacrosse at Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, West Virginia.

“Wheeling Jesuit will be a perfect fit for Danielle,” said Oregon City coach Dara Kramer. “She’ll bring her great defensive instincts to them, in addition to her hidden threat of being a defender who can score. In addition to her skills, Danielle is a passionately driven athlete. If she sets her mind to do something, she’s going to go after it with all she has. That mentality will serve her well as she steps up to the next level.

“Division II is such a great opportunity for girls to both receive athletic scholarships and likely see a lot of gametime in their freshman year. I am definitely looking forward to following her college career.”

Kirby, who first started playing lacrosse her freshman year, said she also made visits to Colorado-Mesa, Regis and Pacific, but says she chose Wheeling Jesuit because of her meeting with the players and coaches, and because it is a Catholic school.

“When I met with the coaches and team, I instantly knew this is where I was going to go to school....,” Kirby says. “Also, it’s a Jesuit school. I’m Catholic and I want to get back to my roots.... I like that they have community service and they make mission trips.”

A 3.83 student, Kirby plans to study criminal justice and psychology.

“I want to go into the FBI and become a behavioral analyst,” she said.
