Exemplary sportsmanship has paid dividends for Canby High School.

Canby was honored recently by the Oregon School Activities Association as the OSAA’s first annual “sportsmanship award” winner for the Class 6A classification.

The school received a banner to hang, along with a $1,000 check from the OSAA. Canby was selected by an OSAA committee, after being nominated by Three Rivers League administrators for demonstrating the highest level of sportsmanship among TRL schools at sporting events during the 2012-13 school year.

Other winners were Hood River in 5A, McLoughlin in 4A, Illinois Valley in 3A, Western Mennonite in 2A and Imbler in 1A.

“These sportsmanship award winners demonstrated exemplary behavior as athletes, coaches, fans and community members over the course of the 2012-13 school year,” the OSAA said in a press release announcing the award.
