Putnam senior Trace Loehr last week was among 20 high school players from around the nation named to the USA Baseball 2013 18U National Team.

The announcement came following play at the USA Baseball 18U National Team Trials in Fullerton, Calif. The five-day trials also included games at Long Beach State, Dodger Stadium and the University of San Diego.

Loehr was among only six players selected as an infielder and he was the only athlete selected from Oregon.

“I’ve been told that there haven’t been many Oregon players to ever make this team,” said Putnam athletic director Daniel Barendse. “Very exciting news for the OSU-bound senior.”

Loehr is traveling with the team to Taichung, Taiwan, to compete in the 2013 International Baseball Federation Junior ‘AAA’/18U World Cup, which starts this Friday and runs through Sept. 8.

The 2012 18U National Team won the 18U World Championships.
