Oregon City senior Al Lacey headed a field of 56 athletes as he led Oregon City’s boys team to second place in the six-team high school division of the Warner Pacific Open Cross Country Meet, hosted by the college on Oct. 5.

Lacey won the 5,000-meter race in 16:23.60, finishing a full nine seconds in front of the next best runner, Portland Christian senior Sisay Gillock.

Central Catholic boys won the meet, scoring 43 points and finishing in front of Oregon City (51), Barlow (57), Ridgefield (111), R.A. Long (128) and Portland Lutheran (136).

Oregon City had all five of its scoring runners finish in the top 20. Sophomore James Swyter (17:25), juniors Joseph Heisler (17:43) and Jordan Howell (18:01), and senior Corey Hedger (18:11) placed 11th, 13th, 18th and 19th respectively.

Junior Miranda Nelson (20:36) and senior Kaelynn Lowe (20:38) ran strong races for Oregon City girls, placing second and third respectively in a field of 36 runners. R.A. Long sophomore Abby Weiler (20:35.60) won the girls race. Barlow scored 51 points for first place in the girls team scoring. Ridgefield (53), R.A. Long (53) and Oregon City (71) rounded out the girls team scoring.

The Three Rivers League district meet is next Wednesday at Clackamas Community College.
