Community members also invited to participate

Talents of all types will be on display at the Estacada High School auditorium on March 8, for an event set to raise money for prom.

The talent show, now in its second year, will take place from 7-9 p.m. Estacada junior class representative Andrew Rude said preparations are well under way.

“We’ve had it in the back of our minds and we’ve been planning it for the whole year,” Rude said. “But in the past week or so, we’ve been putting up signs in the school and talking to businesses around town to get donations for different things.”

Students have been signing up to participate, with around 30 committed by the middle of February.

“It’s looking promising,” Rude said.

Community members are also invited to showcase their skills, and auditions for the public-at-large were scheduled for Feb. 20 and 21. Anyone who missed the chance to audition during those days can still make arrangements by contacting Autumn Gonzales at the high school at 503-630- 8515.

“A lot of it is, people come in to the auditions and just do it. You don’t have to be signed up for it,” Rude said. “If we can get community members involved, we would love to have different people in the community at the talent show.”

Last year’s winner was Harken, an Estacada-based rock band whose members attended the school and have since graduated.

EHS students hoping to participate can still sign up. Sheets are available at the school’s main office and by its library.

Winners will receive prizes that have been donated by businesses in the community.

Admission to the talent show is $5 for students, $6 for adults and $9 for families. Rude said he hopes to make the show an annual event.
