Many Estacada residents started their Saturday, Jan. 6, by gathering outside of the city's new Dollar General store.

The store's grand opening ceremony promised gift cards and gift bags to the first shoppers in the building, and eager residents lined up along Broadway Street to partake in the fun.

The morning began with a ribbon cutting, facilitated by the city of Estacada, the Downtown Estacada Commission and the Estacada Chamber of Commerce.

"The mayor wants to thank you for showing," Mayor Sean Drinkwine addressed the line of people. "This is how we show them we love them."

During the morning, Dollar General employees handed out donuts, granola bars and drinks. There was a raffle, with prizes ranging from a $50 Dollar General gift card to bluetooth speakers.
