Foundation honors first responders
The Estacada Area Support Our Troops Foundation is adding a new way of supporting those who protect the country.
The front wall of the Veterans Memorial at 267 N.E. Second Ave. will soon feature bricks dedicated to first responders, such as firefighters, paramedics and police officers.
"(The first responders wall) has always been in the plan for the memorial," said Dennis Dahrens, president of the Estacada Area Support Our Troops Foundation, the group that maintains the memorial.
Dahrens described how the installation of the first responder bricks was done so people could more easily distinguish them from bricks honoring military veterans.
The Estacada Area Support Our Troops Foundation will take orders for the bricks through Monday, April 30. Forms for the bricks are available at the Estacada Chamber of Commerce, 475 S.E. Main St., the Estacada Public Library, 825 N.W. Wade St., and Estacada True Value, 310 S.E. Main St., and the cost is $60 per brick.
Dahrens said the new first responder wall will be a valuable addition to the memorial.
"It's important to recognize first responders, both military and civilian," he said.
The memorial bricks are for any past or present Estacada area veteran or first responder.
"They're for everybody (who served), alive or passed," Dahrens noted. "If you've got a son or daughter in the service or who is a first responder, put them on the wall. We want to do something nice for the veterans and first responders."
