Sale will be nirvana for treasure hunters
Inventory at the Barton Antique Mall will soon overflow to the outside of the historic building.
Vendors at the store, 25618 S.E. Highway 224, will host their fourth annual outdoor sale on Saturday, June 23, and Sunday, June 24.
Jon, the store's manager, said the tradition began out of necessity, since the Antique Mall's vendors have such large collections of eclectic items to sell.
"Our people go out and buy all the time. We could fill the building two or three times over if it was big enough," he said. "Once a year, we go to clean out our shops, garages, barns and storage units."
The Antique Mall, which acts as a co-op, features more than 20 vendors, and the building originally served as the Barton Feed Store.
The outdoor sale — and the store itself — features antiques, vintage, collectable and repurposed items. Many items at the sale come from vendor's inventory and would not typically be available for purchase at the mall because of limited space.
Jon estimated that 22 vendors would participate in the sale and that the event
would feature thousands of items.
Inside the store, all full priced merchandise will be 15 percent off for the weekend.
Jon noted that some things for sale at the Barton Antique Mall cost as little as $5.
"People don't need to be afraid of things being expensive," he said.
He added that antique items often carry interesting stories.
"Some of this stuff has been east and west. It has massive stories of its life, if it could only tell," Jon said. "I like when a customer discovers something that meets their needs and wants, or when we talk to them and they see a possibility for something that they open our eyes to. It's the thrill of finding a treasure."
He encouraged anyone interested to stop by during the outdoor sale.
"It only happens once a year. Don't miss it," he said. "It's a great chance to do the outdoor and indoor thing. You can easily spend half a day here and only scratch the surface."
