The Estacada girls track team opened the season with a pair of wins at the eight-team Sherwood Relays last week.

The Rangers won in the 400-meter relay in 51.85 seconds, edging 5A Sherwood by about half-a-second. The Rangers tag-team included Alexis Chaves, Tori Johnson, Ashley Teel and Genna Settle. Johnson cleared 4-feet-8-inches to finish in a three-way tie for first place in the high jump. Sarah Davies was third in the triple jump (30-4) and fourth in the high hurdles (18.78), while Mariah Johnson finished fourth in the 3,000 (11:41.79) and Jessica Wheeler was fourth in the triple jump (29-3 3/4).

On the boys side, Justin Rich won the discus (134-6) by almost 10 feet and was second in the shot put (46-11). The Rangers finished third in the 800-meter relay (1:46.41) and third in the sprint relay (2:51.78).

The team’s next meet is Saturday, April 6, at the Sandy Invitational.

Summers wins high jump at Oregon Preview

Estacada High graduate Chancey Summers, a sophomore at the University of Oregon, cleared 5-feet-7 3/4-inches to win the high jump at the Oregon Preview meet two weeks ago. She finished two clearances higher than the rest of the field.

Fellow Rangers graduate Tyler Callahan, a sophomore at Mt. Hood CC, finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 191-9.
