The Tri-Valley brings in nearby Corbett and far away Crook County for the 2014-15 season

Photo Credit: ESTACADA NEWS: FILE PHOTO - Tori Johnson and the Rangers have become a force in volleyball in recent years, but will get a challenge this fall with the addition of 3A powerhouse Corbett. The Tri-Valley League gets a new look this season with two schools coming into the mix and two teams leaving.

The league says goodbye to private-school power LaSalle Prep, which won league titles in 10 sports last season. The Falcons won state in boys cross country, took second in boys and girls basketball and reached the semifinals in girls soccer.

LaSalle will test itself at the 5A level going forward as the newest member of the Northwest Oregon Conference, which consists of largely Portland and Clackamas area schools. The Falcons are the smallest 5A school with the exception of Marist, which requested to play up a level.

North Marion switches to the Oregon West league.

The Tri-Valley welcomes Corbett, which has been a force at the 3A level in the past, most notably in volleyball. The Cardinals have reached the state tournament each of the last four seasons, falling in the state finals in 2012 and placing third in 2011.

Crook County is the league’s other addition, in large part to give Madras a nearby opponent. Of course, that means another long road trip for the metro-area members of the league. Prineville is the farthest destination in the league for Rangers fans at a 265-mile round trip.

League foes Corbett, Gladstone and Molalla are all with 25 miles of Estacada, while Madras means a 206-mile round trip to Central Oregon.

Crook County has won the last two 4A state wrestling titles, putting up a record 405.5 points at last year’s tournament. They outscored the next three teams in the standings combined.

The Cowboys competed in a two-team special district last year that has since been dismantled. The Cowboys were fitted into the Tri-Valley, while Ridgeview requested to play up at the 5A level to join a mix of Bend-area schools.
