GLADSTONE — A single swing of the bat doomed Estacada's softball team during a 3-1 loss at Gladstone on Friday that put a stop to the Rangers' five-game win streak.

"The girls have turned a corner during that five-game stretch, but our bats went a little cold tonight," Estacada coach Mike Clark said.

The teams took a scoreless game into the fifth inning, before Madi Mott cleared the bases with a double over the right-fielder's head.

"One swing of the bat beat us today," Clark said.

Estacada pushed across its only run in the seventh inning when Skylar Hunter hit a lead-off single and scored two batters later after Riley Canifax drove a long hit that dropped just short of the center-field fence.

A strikeout and a slow grounder halfway down the third-base line prevented the Rangers from getting the tying run out of the batter's box.

Estacada won the opening game of the series 7-6 earlier in the week.

Estacada (10-11) finished the week in third place in the Tri-Valley, putting itself in position for one of 4A's play-in qualifier spots. The team has a key stretch ahead that includes a home game against Corbett on Friday before going to Molalla on Tuesday.
