Three Forest Grove School Board seats — those belonging to John Hayes, Gil Jimenez and Alisa Hampton — will be on the ballot in the May 21 special election.

Hayes is in Position 1, Jimenez in Position 2; and Hampton in Position 3. Anyone who’s thinking of tossing their hat into the ring can find out what’s involved in being a school board member at a workshop Tuesday, Jan. 8. The two-hour question-and-answer session is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Forest Grove School District central administration office, 1728 Main St.

The workshop will feature a panel of past and current board members who will “talk about the challenges and rewards of serving on the board,” noted Chief of Staff Connie Potter.

The presentation will also include information about board roles and responsibilities and how to file with Washington County as a candidate.

“This is part of our new Parent Academy, where we are offering monthly classes on issues that are of importance to parents and community members,” Potter said Wednesday. She and Hampton, the board’s current chairwoman, will serve as moderators for the workshop.

“We’ll talk about the role of school board members, what the responsibilities are, what the time commitment is and the kinds of issues board members deal with,” Potter said. “We’ll also have information on the election process — how to apply, deadlines, etc.”
