Metro Councilor Kathryn Harrington, who represents Hillsboro and most of the rest of Washington County, has filed for re-election.

Harrington’s announcement ends months of political insider speculation that she was considering running against Washington County Chairman Andy Duyck. Other rumored candidates against Duyck include first-term state Rep. Ben Unger (D-Hillsboro), who has said he is still undecided.

Harrington was first elected to Metro District 4 in 2006 and re-elected in 2010.

“I’ve produced real results for District 4 in Washington County during my first two terms as Metro councilor, and I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to do this work,” Harrington said in her announcement.

“I’m asking voters for the opportunity to continue the effective work I’ve been doing at Metro. This is challenging and rewarding public service, and I take very seriously the responsibility of fostering great quality of life in our region as we grow.”
