Intersection meeting tonight

Forest Grove Mayor Pete Truax will host state legislators and transportation officials at a Town Hall meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, to discuss the need for improvements to a deadly intersection north of town at Highway 47 and Northwest Verboort Road.

The intersection was the site of a double-fatal crash April 7 in which two Pacific University students were killed. In 2007 a Banks high school student died in a similar crash.

Truax will be joined by state Sens. Bruce Starr and Betsy Johnson, as well as two officials from the Oregon Department of Transportation. Sonny Chickering, manager of ODOT’s northwest region (Region 2), and Area Manager Larry McKinley will present the agency’s plans to install a roundabout at the intersection, an idea which has received mixed reactions from local residents. They will discuss the project’s time frame and will also take questions.

The meeting will be held in the community auditorium, 1915 Main St.

Pacific cancer club collects food
