Music, kids' activities set for first day

Get ready to get your market on.

The Forest Grove Farmers Market opens its seventh season Wednesday, May 7, from 4 to 8 p.m. “Customers will enjoy the familiar charm of the community event with longtime vendors as well as new faces on the first day,” said Market Manager Kaely Summers.

Opening Day celebrations include free kids’ activities, music and opportunities to “Spring into Action” with First Wednesday participants from the local business community. Organizations from around Forest Grove will have booths at the market to share information, and the City Club of Forest Grove will host artisan and craft booths.

The market has been operating as a program of the nonprofit Adelante Mujeres since 2008 and has “seen quite a bit of growth since,” said Summers. Located on Main Street between 21st and Pacific Avenue, the event runs through the end of October. Visitors can expect weekly music, a dining area with reusable dishes, an annual Salsa Fest, Market Sprouts Kids Club, First Wednesday activities, monthly cooking demonstrations, and earlier hours during fall markets.

“Remember to bring your reusable shopping bags, and get your taste buds ready for delicious early-season veggies such as lettuces, spinach and an assortment of other fresh greens, spring onions, herbs, and rhubarb,” Summers said. “Local meats, honey, eggs, pie and tamales will also be for sale along with other favorites.

“The diversity of products that will be offered this season is growing and the majority is coming from less than 15 miles away.”
