The public can comment on a proposed marijuana processing business potentially opening outside Banks until June 20

Washington County Associate Planner Carine Arendes is accepting comments until Tuesday, June 20, on a proposed marijuana processing facility in Banks.

Hong Lee of Green Mountain Extracts in Gresham submitted an application to Washington County for a "small processing facility" on the southeast corner of the intersection of Green Mountain and Woollen roads.

The site is zoned as agriculture and forestry and as exclusive farm use. Jose Cruz and Shawna Vazquez own the 36-acre property, which sits outside the city limits and is not a retail operation so the city of Banks could not collect taxes on the business.

The county has received three emails from citizens concerned about the facility, which is permitted according to county codes and zoning.

Comments can be sent to Arendes at 155 N. First Ave., #350-13, Hillsboro, OR 97124.
