The 29-year-old suspect turned himself in on Wednesday, according to law enforcement.

Edgar Agustin PerezWashington County deputies arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman sleeping in her own bed while her fiancé slept next to her.

Edgar Agustin Perez, 29, was identified by the couple as the suspect. He is an acquaintance of their family.

Perez was initially wanted on an unrelated felony warrant. He turned himself in on Wednesday morning, Jan. 31.

Deputies said the incident happened on Jan. 23 at approximately 4:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of North Clark Street in Cornelius. Upon waking up, the fiancé chased Perez before he got away.

Deputies aren't sure how he got into the couple's home, but they said it was possibly through an unlocked door.
