Representatives of more than 30 organizations to attend Feb. 20 summit

The Hillsboro Arts & Culture Council (HACC) will host the Hillsboro Arts & Culture Summit at the Walters Cultural Arts Center Thursday, Feb. 20.

The summit is designed to connect people and organizations sharing a passion for local arts, provide information about upcoming events and volunteer opportunities and introduce individuals with HACC members to chat about grant funding.

Representatives from more than 30 arts and culture organizations will be in attendance, sharing information about their programs and events. The evening will include wine, hors d’oeuvres and live music by Two Spirit Jazz.

“It’s really a place for both individuals and organizations in the Hillsboro area to meet and make connections which can lead to new partnerships and programs,” said Melissa Moore of HACC.

She cited several past examples of partnerships cultivated at the summit, which began in 2008:

n The Westside Quilters Guild partnered with the HART Theatre. HART produced a play titled, “Quilters” and displayed quilts from the Quilters Guild both on stage and in their lobby.

n The Hillsboro Historical Society partnered with the Hillsboro Community Youth Choir to create a performance on the History of Hillsboro through song. The Historical Society helped the Youth Choir with the script and costuming for the performance and HACC awarded a grant in 2011 to support the program.

n The Portland Chamber Orchestra connected with the Oregon Chorale and the Hillsboro Community Youth Choir to form the Chamber Orchestra doing a “Messiah” performance in Hillsboro every year.

n The Farmers’ Market and Tuesday Marketplace connect with visual and performing artists for their markets.

The free event will be from

5 to 7 p.m. at 527 E. Main St. Representatives of organizations wanting to reserve a space can do so for $40 and by calling 503-615-3431. Table reservations close Tuesday, Feb. 18.
