by: COURTESY PHOTO: JIM FLORY - Pacific professor Jim Florys photographs will be on display April 4 to 8. Pacific University art professor Jim Flory will display his photographs at the Kathrin Cawein Gallery of Art in Scott Hall on the Forest Grove campus from April 4 to 8.

He’ll discuss his work today, April 2, at noon during a reception at the gallery.

This show centers on photos Flory took on his latest trip to Italy. Photos from Siena, Rome and Florence will line the walls.

Flory will be on hand today to discuss his technique and inspiration.

“My last trip to Italy was 37 years ago,” Flory said. “Italy is like an old friend you haven’t seen in years: vibrant, older, exciting and still beautiful. I was pleased that it has not changed so much in all these years.”

Flory has been taking pictures and teaching photography at Pacific for decades, instructing thousands of students about the fundamentals of the art. He’s led countless student trips and organizes exciting excursions.

Flory experiments with everything from tiny bugs to skyscrapers and everyone from his grandkids to passersby.

The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday 1 to 5 p.m. and admission is free.
