Walters Cultural Arts Center to host more than a dozen acts in 2018-19
Tickets are now on sale for this season's lineup of concerts at the Greg & Viola Walters Cultural Arts Center in downtown Hillsboro.
The center, located at 527 E. Main St., began selling tickets this month for its 2018-19 concert series, which kicks off Sept. 21 with a performance by Luz Elena Mendoza, the celebrated frontwoman of Y La Bamba.
Mendoza is one of more than a dozen performers planned at the 200-seat theater this season. The series includes plenty of genres, including Americana, folk, AfroCaribbean, classical, neosoul, opera, Celtic, Spanish flamenco, fingerstyle guitar and reggae performances by emerging and world-renowned musicians.
The eclectic season includes several returning favorites, including Thomas Lauderdale of Pink Martini, who will perform two shows highlighting his talent as a classical pianist in November. Ticket proceeds from Lauderdale's performance will benefit the Hillsboro Arts & Culture Endowment.
Other returning artists this season include Skybound Blue, Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas and Craig Carothers. New performers to the Walters include the rising powerhouse Saeeda Wright, the Mediterranean- and Middle Eastern-influenced Seffarine and the life-affirming performance of Painted Sky Northstar Dancers.
