Greyhounds will have a week of celebration leading up to their homecoming football game against Neah-Kah-Nie on Friday

staff report

“Cirque du Soleil” is the theme for Gaston High School’s week-long celebration of Homecoming 2012.

Six days of activities kicked off Monday with an annual October tradition in which Associated Student Body members surprise the Homecoming court by “waking them up at the crack of dawn in their homes,” said ASB adviser Jennifer Oberg. The kids “are then brought to school to enjoy a home-cooked breakfast from more of the ASB students,” she added.

On Tuesday the school held a special assembly for court members, formally introducing them to students. The Greyhound volleyball team took on Nestucca the same day.

A coronation ceremony for the Homecoming king and queen will be held at 7 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, in the school gymnasium.

In an effort to generate school spirit for the evening’s Homecoming football game, students will get together Friday morning for a pep assembly. The big game starts at 7 p.m. against the Neah-Kah-Nie Pirates.

The Homecoming dance is on Saturday from 8 to 11 p.m. at the high school.

Dress-up days throughout the week are as follows: Monday, “Team USA Day”; Tuesday, “Senior Citizens Day”; Wednesday, “Opposite Dress Day”; Thursday, “Neon/80s Day”; and Friday, “Green & Gold Spirit Day.”
