Pacific men end by beating Puget Sound but women stumble

The Pacific men’s basketball team ended its season with a dramatic 58-54 win over Puget Sound on Saturday, getting eight points in the final five minutes from Jordan Batey.

Batey’s 3-pointer with 5:48 to play gave Pacific a 49-47 lead, and his two free throws with 12 seconds left sealed the contest. The junior finished with a team-high 11 points, and the Boxers finished the season with a 16-9 overall record, 9-7 in Northwest Conference play.

Mitch Wettig added a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Budweiser Hawkins ended his Pacific career with 10 points.

Along with Hawkins, it was the final game for seniors Daniel Zitani, Eric Moore, Cameron Hayes and Connor Hurley.

The Boxer women were not as fortunate on Saturday, falling behind early and losing their season finale 84-61 to the playoff-bound Loggers.

Sarah Curl finished off her freshman season with a solid scoring performance, pumping in 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field. Alex Pfefferle closed out her Pacific career by scoring 16 points.

With the loss, Pacific finished the season with an 8-16 overall record, 4-12 in NWC play.
