Wood Village hosts 'Nite Out'

Wood Village will host its 14th Annual Nite Out on Friday, July 19.

The event is based on National Night Out, an effort started in 1984 to promote neighborhood involvement in crime prevention activities.

Wood Village's Nite Out will feature free food and beverages, door prizes, live music, police demonstrations, pony rides and a parade.

There also will be a Red Cross Blood drive from 3-8 p.m. as well as a free bike helmet fitting for kids and a food drive for SnowCap Community Charities.

The Emergency Vehicle Parade starts at 5 p.m. at Wood Village City Hall, travels through the city and ends at Wood Village Baptist Church, 23601 N.E. Arata Road, where the festivities will continue until 9 p.m.

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Color Guard presents at 5:30 p.m., followed by welcoming introductions by Wood Village Mayor Patricia Smith and Sheriff Dan Staton.

Demonstrations include a Life Flight helicopter landing at 5:45 p.m., a dog tracking and a Taser demo by county police at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Martial Arts Fitness Center demo at 6:20 p.m., a SWAT and bomb squad demo at 6:40 p.m. and 8:20 p.m., Northwest Gymnastic demo at 7:10 p.m. and U.S. West Coast Taekwondo demo at 8 p.m.

The event is free, but people are welcome to bring two cans to donate.

Chamber posts review of legislative session

The Gresham Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a review of the 2013 legislative session from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, at Persimmon Country Club, 500 S.E. Butler Road.

Speakers include Sen. Laurie Monnes Anderson, District 25; Sen. Chuck Thomsen, District 26; Rep. Chris Gorsek, District 49; Rep. Greg Matthews, District 50; Rep. Shemia Fagan, District 51; and Rep. Mark Johnson, District 52.

Community meets to reorganize Grange building

The public is invited to attend a meeting about the revival and operation of Multnomah Grange Building No. 71 at 7 p.m. July 18, at 30639 S.E. Bluff Road, Gresham.
