A fair for student veterans Nov. 12

Mt. Hood Community College will host a veterans fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, in Vista Dining Center, Room AC2000.

Sponsored by MHCC Veteran Services, WorkSource, Gresham United Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 180 and a number of employers, the fair will feature information and guidance for veterans about their careers and GI Bill benefits.

Employers seeking to hire veterans will include banks, healthcare organizations, manufacturers, retail grocers and transportation representatives.

Fireplace Gallery presents ‘Old Siampaintings

Mt. Hood Community College’s Fireplace Gallery is hosting a free art exhibit by Fasai Streed called “The Old Siam.”

The exhibit runs Nov. 1-29, featuring old Thai/Siamese village life, culture and traditions.

“The Old Siam is more than exquisite paintings; it is a family art, a simple way of life and a dose of nostalgia,” Streed said. “It reminds me of my roots, my childhood and my mom.”

The gallery is located in the Student Union at 26000 S.E. Stark Street. Hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. Parking is free.

A Christmas Carol’ meets ‘Noises Off’

Sam Barlow High School Theatre is presenting “Inspecting Carol” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8, 9 and 14-16 and 3 p.m. Nov. 10 and 17.

The comedy centers around a small theater company that performs Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” every winter.

Tickets are $8 for general admission and $6 for students and seniors.

Celebrate new MHCC diversity center

The community is invited to a reception honoring the opening of Mt. Hood Community College’s Diversity Resource Center.

Hosted by the Associated Student Government, the event will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, in the Student Union Lounge.

The reception will feature refreshments, live entertainment a formal ribbon cutting and brief comments from campus and community leaders.

Speakers include:

• Dr. Debbie Derr, Mt. Hood Community College president

• Lori Stegmann, Gresham city councilor

• Laura Aguon, Associated Student Government president

• Melinda C. Bullen, Diversity Resource Center coordinator

• David Sussman, Student Union and Specialized Student Programs manager

• Larry Dawkins, long-time faculty member

Through Nov. 7, the center will host a collection of textiles from Latin America.
