Troutdale named Tree City USA for 12th year
For the 12th year in a row, the city of Troutdale was named as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in recognition of its commitment to urban forestry.
Troutdale is among 55 cities in Oregon that have been recognized by the Tree City USA program, a list that also includes Gresham, Portland and Sandy. More than 3,400 cities across the United States have the designation.
The Arbor Day Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to planting trees, said the benefits of being a Tree City include potential for grants, environmental benefits and community pride.
To be eligible, cities must have a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, a community forestry program and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
The Tree City USA program provides direction, technical assistance, public attention and national recognition for urban and community forestry programs
