Nestor Catarino Zazueta-Valenzuela, 36, was arrested and charged with distribution and possession of methamphetamine. Two other passengers in the car were released without charges, Simpson said.

At 3:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, police received consent to search a car they pulled over at Exit 18 on westbound Interstate 84, Simpson said.

After a drug dog, Nikko, sniffed out a large suitcase in the trunk, all three occupants in the car allegedly denied owning it, police said.

Investigators obtained a search warrant.

Upon opening the bag, they found 31 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of nearly $1.5 million, Simpson said.

Zazueta-Valenzuela was booked into the Multnomah County Jail and was scheduled for arraignment on Monday, Jan. 27.
