by: CONTRIBUTED PHOTO: MULTNOMAH COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE - Maximilliano Rigo Resendiz-ThompsonInvestigators arrested a Gresham man they suspect of stabbing and injuring a 13-year-old girl while she was at a party this past May, said Sgt. Pete Simpson, spokesman for the Portland Police Bureau.

Police said the suspect, Maximilliano Rigo Resendiz-Thompson, 20, is a known gang member.

Resendiz-Thompson was arrested on Wednesday, June 18, without incident at his home in the 100 block of Southeast 172nd Avenue in Gresham.

He was then booked into the Multnomah County jail on charges of assault in the second degree and unlawful use of a weapon, Simpson said.

An investigation into the case began on May 25 of this year, when East Precinct officers responded to Portland Adventist Medical Center on the report of a walk-in stabbing victim, police said.

Officers contacted the victim, a 13-year-old girl.

The girl told police that she was at a house party at Southeast 138th Avenue and Stark Street when a scuffle broke out.

The girl was allegedly punched in the face and stabbed in the back by a man, said Simpson.

Her injuries were not life-threatening.

Gang enforcement detectives developed probable cause to arrest Resendiz-Thompson for the stabbing.
