Portland Christian’s early childhood department gets kudos

Portland Christian Schools’ Early Childhood Education Department (ECE) recently received a five-star rating after participating in Oregon’s Quality Rating and Improvement System.

Shortly after receiving the five-star rating, Gov. John Kitzhaber sent a letter to Portland Christian Schools congratulating the ECE department on its dedication to the state’s “youngest citizens.”

“Programs throughout Oregon will look to you and programs like yours for the quality practices and professionalism your program has demonstrated,” Kitzhaber wrote. “Our collective investment in children’s success in school provides a foundation for Oregon’s future.”

PCE helps SnowCap

Portland Christian Elementary’s summer students recently held a rummage and bake sale to raise funds for SnowCap Community Charities.

The students, who ranged in age from 2-1/2 to 12, were part of the “Super Heroes of the Bible” summer program. The program draws students from all over the city and is open to students attending other schools.

The funds from the student-run rummage sale will purchase underwear, socks and diapers for families in need. The students also will have the opportunity to deliver the items to SnowCap so they can see the inner workings of a nonprofit organization.
